Boiler & Heating Support

Boiler support – current status

Boiler and heating support through LEAP is currently closed and is expected to reopen in October.

This page explains how boiler support is usually assessed and how households or referrers can plan ahead. No applications can be made while the scheme is closed.

How boiler support is usually considered

Boiler and heating support is not a standalone service and is assessed as part of a wider energy advice visit. It is considered where heating issues are causing significant problems for a household.

Support decisions are based on professional judgement and available funding at the time the scheme is open.

Typical eligibility factors

When boiler support is available, it is usually considered where:

  • A household has is in a no heat situation, or a serious boiler fault

  • There is financial vulnerability, such as low income or receipt of benefits

  • There is a health or vulnerability factor, such as older age, young children, disability, or long-term health conditions affected by cold homes

Not all households meeting these factors will qualify, and additional checks are required.

Planning ahead while the scheme is closed

Even while boiler support is closed, households can still benefit from an energy advice visit. This can help to:

  • Identify temporary measures to improve warmth and safety

  • Explore alternative support routes where appropriate

  • Gather information that may be needed if boiler support reopens

Referrers may wish to note households who could benefit when the scheme becomes available again.

What happens when the scheme reopens

When boiler support reopens, eligibility is confirmed through a LEAP eligibility call. Availability and criteria can vary, and support cannot be guaranteed.

This page provides information only. Final decisions always sit with LEAP.
